Form & Functionality

“Design is not how it looks like, but how it works”

I have heard this misquoted argument many times.
Often to justify poor aesthetics.

And I donโ€™t completely agree. Here’s why:

Of course, the design has to be functional.
It has to serve a purpose.

It has to
๐Ÿ‘‰ get someone to complete a task
๐Ÿ‘‰ or increase some metrics
๐Ÿ‘‰ or change some behaviour
(among other things)

But when you choose to make something thatโ€™s just functional, you are setting the bar too low.
You are looking at creating something that is incomplete.

A great piece of design combines aesthetics & function.
A great piece of design shows clarity of thinking, all the way through.

It delivers on form & functionality.

What do you think about this?
